Effect of Nitrogen Fertilizer and Plant Spacing on Vegetative Growth of Sugar Beet (Beta vulgaris)

Despite the existing several Sugar manufacturing companies in Sudan, there is an acute shortage sugar supply, therefore government imports to bridge gap. One of strategies be followed introduction beet (Beta vulgaris) crop, mainly for production. This crop has advantages over Sugarcane such as short duration, less water requirement, addition other uses like animal feed. Therefore it became necessary have good understanding agricultural operations, cultural practices and adaptation. However, main objective this study was assess effect Nitrogen fertilizer plant spacing on vegetative growth beet. conducted at farm College Agriculture, University Bahri, Alkadro, Khartoum State-Sudan; during season 2016/2017. The experiment arranged Split plot Randomized Complete Block Design with six treatments four replications. Two (15 20 cm.) were used plot, referred (S1, S2) along three levels (40, 80 120 kg/ha.), subplot; (N1, N2 N3) control (0). Data regarding leaf number, area index (LAI), dry weight (g) (LDW), root diameter (mm.) fresh recorded statistically analyzed. results showed S2 (20 cm) increased all studied characters, namely number (29.139), by (7.54), (89.870), (mm) (94,992), (695.80) compared S1(1015 cm). On hand; application N3 (120 kg/ha.) lead (30.956), Area Index (8.841), Leaf (102.47), (97.955) (851.77) S1 presented (table 4, table 5 6).
